Why would we trust a country, which greets putin with red carpet? Also, USA known for abandoning it's allies. Of course, nothing personal just a business, real politic etc. The general and strategic mistake of Ukraine was to rely on "international law" and expecting, that it will defend us or prevent war. But this is a good lesson to small and weak countries – rely only on yourself and build nuclear weapon, army in general.

The thing with US or Russian or any other guarantees was, you don't develop nukes, we protect you. Now that every major nuclear power seems to go nuts in politics, I probably understand why we might see in future more nations that may try to go a nuclear way of defence.

Perhaps im not Ukrainian but Polish and we are in NATO but a large portion of us (including me) don’t trust it anyway and we want to invest in our own army and are doing so. We already had our lesson during WW2 and our treaties with France and GB for them to help us if we got invaded… well they sent posters down from helicopters lmao to us and that was all (also declared war on nazi germany but done **shit** until nazis attacked them first) so yeah. Russia is violating any single sheet of paper it has signed with Ukraine, including those signed by the US, too. Like the UN Charter.

If Trump can do something to aid Ukraine and enforce treaties on Russia, he can do it now, without signing any new papers. If he can't, it means he can't guarantee anything.

Since Bismarck, it's always about "Real Politic". 

You can have all agreements you can get, and they will not protect you if one day some major power decided to invade you and will have enough economic strength to withstand sanctions or simply close other "concerned" actors throats.

Last a few years showed, that there is no security guarantee but having a very strong army and nuclear weapons. Even if you are a NATO member. I'm not even sure NATO will actively protect Lithuania in case of Russian invasion.

The only guarantee could only mean ground troops like in Cyprus. And Russia should pay their costs. (I'm not Ukrainian)

But personally I think that Ukraine should not renounce any km of land and continue fighting, even if that means for another 15 years. All the hreat powers can be defeated only in long wars or huge casualties, like Afghanistan and Vietnam. And I think Europe and America should send even more weapons to Ukraine, even tactical nukes if they need.

The only real guarantees from the US are to live in the US; in that case, the guarantees might actually work. Im not even sure whether the US would protect Europe (part of NATO) if something happened. I certainly dont believe in some phantom guarantees they could give Ukraine. There was already Budapest, and we know how that ended. If they really wanted to protect Ukraine, they would have accepted it into NATO a long time ago. The US has some inexplicable fear of ruzzia, thats all. I honestly cant explain it otherwise

Not only is Russia unlikely to initiate nuclear war, it uses the West’s fear of nuclear war to keep NATO out of its targets e.g. Ukraine.

Russia has already harmed the UK and the US by turning their leaders (Johnson and Trump) towards isolationism. Getting the Western hegemon and its most powerful ally to retreat from multilateralism is a crisis which is shaking up the world order. Australia is negotiating a mutual defence pact with the EU, FFS.

Meanwhile, Russia has brought Indonesia into BRICS. Expanding its sphere of influence into Oceania is another attempt to destabilise the post-WWII world order. 

While Russia could go for high-tech disruption, it’s unnecessary. Russia has been shaking the world up for years.

How else can one explain them being so heavily opposed to security guarantees? Why else since the beginning of war they want Ukraine to demilitarize in exchange for "peace"?


It's not even about Ukraine being in NATO specifically, it's about Ukraine being able to defend itself. Russia is categorically opposed to any scenario in which Ukraine becomes harder to invade in the future.


People who miss this point keep being surprised that Ukraine doesn't just agree to demands to achieve peace. The answer is that there will not be any peace. Russia already signed an agreement not to invade and already broke it twice. Russia already showed that they want to control the whole Ukraine. Giving up weapons, fortified territories and security guarantees from allies is the most idiotic thing that could happen, which will lead to another war guaranteed, and this time Russia would have the upper hand.

Russia does not want peace. At best, they want a short term "truce" in which they can economically and military recover, then claim whatever garbage they will make up to have an excuse to invade Ukraine again.

I dont understand how three years into the conflict the USA and the EU still can't come to terms with this? And that there's only two paths: either Ukraine fully surrenders and gives Russia anything they want, or they keep fighting until there's a forced outcome.

Once this war is over, Ukraine needs to do exactly what Poland is doing and become a military powerhouse, with heavily protected borders and a strong stance on defending themselves.
